Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today inaugurated US pharma major Eli Lilly's new technology and innovation facility in Hyderabad.
By focusing on artificial intelligence (AI), automation, cloud computing and software product engineering, the centre reportedly will help address some of the world's most pressing health challenges while also generating growth opportunities for local talent. The company has already onboarded 100 professionals at its 220,000-square-foot Hyderabad facility and plans to expand the headcount to 1,500 over the next few years.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said, "We are not opening just any ordinary centre or GCC, but a nerve centre of Eli Lilly - the brain of the corporation will operate from here. It will manage, lead and accelerate Eli Lilly's global operations."
"The Hyderabad GCC will integrate Lilly's advanced technological capabilities across key functions, supporting accelerated innovation, enhanced efficiency and improved health outcomes for patients worldwide. The facility will foster innovation and strengthen digital capabilities across Lilly's global operations. It will also create opportunities for local talent and advance Hyderabad's biotech ecosystem," he added.
The CM also described the launch as clinching proof that the Congress government had made Hyderabad the global capital and hub for Global Capability Centers (GCCs), and attributed it to the vision and hard work of IT and Industries Minister Sridhar Babu that made it possible in less than 20 months.
The CM added that the growth of GCCs in Hyderabad, in line with his government's Telangana Rising 2047 vision, would contribute significantly to the State's roadmap for achieving a one trillion dollar economy.
Reddy also said that Hyderabad had become the life sciences capital of India, home to over 2,000 companies.
"We are proud that one in every three vaccines administered anywhere in the world is developed or manufactured in Hyderabad," he said, and expressed his government's commitment to providing a transparent, progressive and innovation-driven ecosystem so that the life sciences industry could scale new heights and redefine global healthcare capabilities.
