Firebrand Telangana Congress leader and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Working President A Revanth Reddy will contest in the upcoming Parliament elections for the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat.
The former Kodangal MLA made an official announcement to this effect on Saturday.
Addressing the media at former MLA and party leader Koona Srisailam Goud's residence, Reddy said that he was contesting the elections to fight against the "feudal rule" of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in the State. He said that both Sudheer Reddy and Sabita Indra Reddy, Congress MLAs who themselves are defecting to the TRS, had encouraged him to contest the upcoming elections and assured him of their total support, but that he was originally against it. He however changed his mind later and decided to contest, to protect the democratic values in the State, he claimed, and likened the upcoming elections in the State to the Kurukshetra war.
Reddy alleged that KCR had given the world a taste of his feudalistic and autocratic rule over the past few days. The CM was attracting the Opposition leaders to his party by treating his own party MLAs like bonded workers, Reddy said.
Commenting on the Malkajgiri seat, Reddy termed the constituency as a mini-India. He alleged that the TRS leaders had failed even to get a road laid in the Cantonment area, and urged the people of the constituency to think about what kind of leader they wanted and vote accordingly.
Referring to the "Sir Car" and 16 MP seats statements of TRS leader K T Rama Rao, Revanth Reddy said that both "Sir" and "Car" were useless to the State. He asked the TRS leader how the State would benefit even if the TRS won 16 Lok Sabha seats and who his party's PM candidate was. He said that the contest was clearly between the Congress and the BJP in the country.
Koona Srisailam Goud welcomed the decision of the Congress to field Revanth Reddy for the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat. He said that he wanted to contest for the seat, but that he dropped the idea after the announcement of Reddy's candidature. He said that the campaign for the seat would be launched from Qutbullapur.
