Alleging that erstwhile Telangana TDP working president Revanth Reddy's desertion of the party to defect to the Congress was a betrayal similar to that by Nadendla Bhaskara Rao who had pulled the rug from under late NTR's feet in 1984 after joining hands with the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Telangana TDP chief L Ramana asked the party workers not to get demoralized by the desertion.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Ramana said that there was no loss to the party due to Revanth Reddy quitting. He said that he had information six months back itself that Reddy was in touch with the Congress, and that all issues had been explained to party chief Chandrababu Naidu. He exuded confidence that the party would develop on its own and that it could wage a successful fight against Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the Congress. He said that the party would go to the election battle with Chandrababu Naidu's photo, and erect the party flag in Telangana.
He also said that the party would think on an alliance with any party that came to NTR Bhavan liking TDP ideals. He warned of severe action against any leaders who worked against the party's interests.
Earlier today, Ramana conducted a teleconference with important party leaders. Speaking with them, Ramana explained why Revanth Reddy had left the party. He said that these kinds of developments were not new to the party and that there was no need to worry, and asked the leaders to strengthen the party by touring the districts and constituencies, and wage a movement on public issues unitedly.
