Respite For Roja In Supreme Court Over Assembly Ban

The Supreme Court directed the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker to take Roja's letter of explanation into consideration.
Hyderabad | 22nd April 2016
YSR Congress Party MLA R K Roja, who was suspended by the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for one year for her "unruly" behaviour in the House during the last session, got a respite in the Supreme Court on Friday.

The apex court, which resumed its hearing on Roja's petition on Friday, directed the Assembly Speaker to take Roja's letter of explanation into consideration.

Directing the government counsel to hand over Roja's letter to the Speaker, the court directed the AP government to take a decision on Roja's explanation either in the regular session or a specially-convened session within eight weeks, failing which it would hold a hearing afresh in the case.

The court also directed the legislature authorities to allow the YSRCP member to participate in the affairs of the House.

The Supreme Court also advised the government not to make the trivial issue a big one, and sort it out with the MLA amicably.

Releasing guidelines in this regard, the court adjourned the case to the first week of August.
