Following intelligence inputs about planned terror attacks by HuJI on Republic Day eve, police have beefed up security for the occasion.
Parade Grounds, the venue of the momentous Republic Day parade, is being fortified with 600 civil force personnel and 14 AP Special Police platoons, special teams of the Central Crime Station, City Armed Reserve Police and traffic police. Bomb disposal squads are also getting ready for the event. The police are also keeping a tab on passengers at railway stations and bus stations.
As for traffic constraints on Republic Day, both the flyovers near Parade Grounds will be closed, and several checkpoints are being set up on the roads. The entry to Sardar Patel (S P) Road between Central Telegraph X Roads and YMCA X Roads will be made one-way between 7am and 11am, while the road from Cantonment to SBH X Roads will be closed during the same time.
Visitors have their bit to do, too – they will be heavily frisked, and 12 door-frame metal detectors will be installed at all entrances of the ground. Cell phones, cameras, bags, tiffin boxes and water bottles are prohibited at the venue. Drinking water facilities will be made available on the grounds.
