The State government on Monday issued a GO making permanent the services of the Village Revenue Assistants, with a fixed pay scale.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao handed over a copy of the Government Orders to the VRA JAC leaders at the Secretariat.
The VRAs have been working for generations on a contract basis, with meagre salaries. However, the Chief Minister on Sunday took a historic decision to abolish the VRA system, which he said symbolised the feudal structure.
Taking into consideration the recommendations made by the cabinet sub-committee appointed to examine the issue, the available stipulated rules and the qualifications of the staff, the VRA staff will all be given appropriate positions in the municipal administration, Mission Bhagiratha, irrigation and other departments as permanent government staff.
A total of 20,555 VRAs are working across the State. Some of them are illiterate, some have passed seventh standard, some have passed tenth standard, some have passed intermediate and a few have completed graduation and even higher studies. The government will determine the jobs for them based on their educational qualifications, and they will be appointed in the appropriate departments as per the rules.
