The Telangana government will sell first-grade red gram (kandi pappu) at Rs 135 a kilogram instead of the previously decided rate of Rs 160 per kg in the State from October 31.
This decision came as the Telangana State Dal Millers Federation agreed to reduce the price to Rs 135.
Federation convenor N Madhusudan said that they would open up centres in every mandal headquarter and at dal mills to sell one kilo of red gram to each person until the stocks are over in the dal mills.
The decision has come at a time that the Andhra Pradesh government, too, announced sale of one kilo per head of first quality red gram for Rs 135, when it is being sold for Rs 200 per kg in the open market.
The initiative is part of the Telangana government's efforts to bring the soaring price of dal down. People can buy the lower-priced dal at specially set-up centres. The State government has already announced that it would open red-gram sale centres in the twin cities, districts and mandals.
