Two techies claim that they were assaulted by Ram Charan Teja, when their car blocked the actor's car at a traffic junction.
On Sunday, the 4th of May, two software engineers - Phaneesh and Kalyan - were allegedly assaulted by Telugu film actor Ram Charan Teja and his bodyguards at around 2:30 p.m.
The duo claim that the actor lost his temper when he was obstructed from taking a free left at the GVK Mall rotary, by their Maruti Alto.
The techies have said that Ram Charan got annoyed with them when their car wouldn't make way for him even after he had honked several times.
The Times of India reported that when the traffic had eased up a little, and the actor could move ahead of the Alto, he intercepted it near the rotary opposite GVK Mall.
Phaneesh told the media, "The actor had an argument with us thinking that we deliberately blocked his way. While we were explaining to him that we had not done it deliberately, Ram Charan called up his bodyguards over the phone. Within a few minutes, four of them arrived at the spot in a vehicle, and one of them punched me in the face."
When the two software engineers rushed to the Panjagutta Police Station to lodge a complaint, they were asked to go the Banjara Hills Police Station, since the incident had occured within the latter's juridisction. Phaneesh and Kalyan went to the Banjara Hills Police Station, but after a discussion that lasted for nearly an hour, conclusive action was not taken.
Though India Today reports that a complaint was lodged against Ram Charan, other leading media houses have reported that the cops at the Banjara Hills Police station did not register a case against him. In their defense, the police reportedly said that Phaneesh and Kalyan had not lodged a formal complaint against the actor.
According to the Deccan Chronicle, Shanker Reddy, ACP, Banjara Hills PS, said, ?The police cannot do anything in such cases. First, no complaint was lodged, and secondly, it is a non-cognisable case, wherein unless the court orders we cannot take any action.?
However, sources close to Ram Charan Teja claim that the two men in the Maruti Alto were chasing his Aston Martin, and that when their car brushed against his car, he got down and merely demanded an explanation. According to them, he did not get physical or overtly hostile with the duo.
Ram Charan Teja is the son of Union Tourism minister Chiranjeevi, also a former film actor.
