Mahabubnagar district In-Charge and Small Scale Industries Minister D K Aruna on Tuesday said that the silence of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu over the damage to the RDS sluice plates is clear indication of his commitment to the Telangana statehood issue.
Talking to media persons at the CLP Office, Aruna said that the TDP president had raised the Babli Irrigation Project issue just before the Telangana by-elections. She dared Naidu to comment on the RDS instead of sitting mum.
The minister also accused some people of politicising the damage caused to plates of sluice of Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme for personal gains.
She alleged that some political leaders were attempting to gain political mileage instead of expressing concern over the act of vandalism and trying to soothe the ruffled feelings of the region's people with calls for restraint.
She expressed anguish that some leaders were leveling baseless charges against the government in order to improve their party's image, instead of solving the issue of sharing of water between two regions.
The minister asked all party leaders to observe restraint from making provocative speeches as such comments could create a law and order problem in the district.
Stating that the government would initiate stern action against the accused, she said the police have
booked cases against 25 persons in this connection and arrested 16.
Aruna said the government has taken all steps to repair the shutter plates removed by some miscreants and protect the interests of farmers of RDS anicut.
The minister also accused the TRS of enforcing the
Mahabubnagar bandh without informing people beforehand. She said that the TRS cadre forced businesses to down their shutters, leaving many wondering over the reason for the bandh.
