A mob of around 1,000 persons had damaged 4 plates of the river sluice across the Tungabhadra.
Hyderabad | 16th August 2010
Civil Supplies Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao on Sunday said that the Mahabubnagar police have registered cases against 25 persons for damaging sluice plates on the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme project.

Talking to media persons at an Independence Day celebration program, Krishna Rao said that the 25 persons were suspected to have taken part in the the mob attack on the sluice plates on the RDS Project.

The Civil Supplies Minister said that the government was taking all necessary measures to ensure that the ayacut is not affected due to the vandalism. He said that, fortunately, despite the vandalism, there was no leakage from the gates.

It may be recalled that a mob of around 1,000 persons had damaged 4 plates of the river sluice across the Tungabhadra at Agasanur village, Kosgi mandal, in Kurnool district.

The mob had allegedly resorted to vandalism after the government decision to release water to the RDS canal from August 20. The incident had led to an outcry by leaders of all political parties from Telangana region, with Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao even terming it as an 'anti-Telangana' act.
