Syed Abdahu Quadri Arrested For Inflammatory Speeches

Syed Abdahu Quadri alias Kashaf, of Old Malakpet, has been detained under the Preventive Detention Act as per the orders of the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police for creating hatred between the Muslim and Hindu communities.

Quadri, on the intervening night of August 22 and 23, along with a number of supporters, had staged a dharna in front of the office of the Commissioner at Basheerbagh in protest against the posting of an allegedly offensive video by BJP MLA Raja Singh on YouTube commenting blasphemously against Prophet Mohammed and his lifestyle, and demanded his immediate arrest.

The police said that hundreds of youths from the Muslim community from all over the city descended at the office of the Commissioner and joined the dharna. Quadri instigated the protestors to raise provocative and inflammatory slogans such as "Naare takbeer Allah hu Akbar, gustak-e-Rasool ki ek hi saza, sar tan se juda" (beheading is the only punishment for a person who disrespects the Prophet), and created hatred and ill-will between the Muslim and Hindu communities in the limits of the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate, thereby adversely affecting the maintenance of public order, the police added.

Violent incidents were reported in the limits of the Moghalpura, Shah Inayath Gunj, Bhavani Nagar and Hussaini Alam police stations in which protestors damaged a police vehicle, pelted stones at a police station, and attacked a hotel vendor and a private cab driver.

Sensing danger to their lives and properties in the hands of the protestors, people panicked and closed their shops and establishments. The entire population of the city and the State went into the grip of fear and shock, the police claimed.

Through his provocative messages and videos on social media platforms, Quadri had been continuously creating hatred and ill-will between major communities, resulting in widespread unrest among the people of Hyderabad and in other parts of the country, the police added. He was involved in four offences in the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate, among them three relating to creating hatred between Muslims and Hindus, resulting in the decision to invoke the PD Act against him.

The cyber crime police, CCS, detective department, executed the PD order on August 30, and he is being lodged in the Central Prison, Chanchalguda, Hyderabad.
