Several low-lying areas in Hyderabad turned into ponds, and several roads turned into canals, due to heavy rain on Wednesday afternoon.
Secunderabad, Warasiguda, Mettuguda and other areas were submerged in rainwater. Vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt for a few hours, and vehicle riders faced severe problems.
The GHMC officials have turned extra-alert due to the continuous rainfall since the last two days. The staff are clearing the nalas which were overflowing on Wednesday. Some 24 field-level emergency teams, six central-office emergency teams and 51 special teams have plunged into relief works.
