Proving, once and for all, that the opposing parties' claims about there being no takers for the Congress ticket in Seemandhra region are false, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Dr N Raghuveera Reddy, on Tuesday, declared that the party had allegedly received over a thousand applications from aspirants in the Seemandhra region.
Speaking to media personnel at Indira Bhavan, Raghuveera Reddy said that the APCC had received as many as 1,160 applications for 175 Assembly seats and over 175 aspirants had applied for the Congress ticket from 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh.
He said that the number itself proves that the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh had no impact on the poll prospects of the Congress party.
He said that the APCC was finding it difficult to short-list these candidates as almost all of them yeild strong influence in their respective constituencies.
Raghuveera Reddy also said that almost all sitting MPs and MLAs will be re-nominated, and that preference will be given to the youth during the allocation of tickets. He said that the short-listed candidates' list will be taken to New Delhi to obtain the Congress High Command's final approval.
He also announced that the Congress manifesto for Andhra Pradesh will be released between April 8 and 10. (INN)
