The race for the coveted Rajya Sabha seats has begun in the ruling TRS in the state.
Two Rajya Sabha seats of Telangana will fall vacant in April of this year. These seats are falling vacant due to the expiries of the terms of sitting MPs K Keshava Rao (TRS) and Garikapati Mohan Rao (BJP). An official notification to fill these two seats will be issued on March 6.
According to highly placed sources, some 15 persons in the TRS are vying for the seats. The party leaders say that industrialist Parthasarathy Reddy from Khammam district and realtor Praveen Reddy from Medak district are in the race for the two seats. However, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's daughter K Kavitha, former MP B Vinod Kumar and a close aide and relative of the CM Damodar Rao are also among the probables. Although the CM wanted to send Damodar Rao to the upper house last year, he could not do so due to having to manage social combinations.
An extension to senior leader K Keshava Rao has also not been ruled out. And former MP and industrialist Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy also appears to have an outside shot.
