The Association Of Qualified Government Junior Lecturers (AQGJL) on Tuesday demanded that a High Court order over their promotions be implemented in letter and spirit.
Talking to media persons, AQGJL president T S Praveen Kumar said that scores of junior lecturers posts have been lying vacant in government degree colleges for the last several years. He said that this was having an adverse impact on the students.
Praveen Kumar claimed that government had assured that it would solve the promotions issue of the junior lecturers, and in this regard had also held consultations with the lecturers.
He said that a spanner was thrown in the promotions process by non-qualified lecturers, who sought their promotions as well.
The association's general secretary B Balaiah said that the government had given a nod for the appointments of non-qualified lecturers, further hurting the sentiments of senior and qualified lecturers. He said that these qualified lecturers had been working with hopes of promotion, but that these hopes were dashed after they were ignored by the government.
Members of the association told the media that for the appointment of a junior lecturer, the minimum qualification requires NET, SLET or Ph. D. Balaiah said that non-qualified lecturers were being appointed to government junior colleges.
Members urged the state government to do justice to senior and qualified junior lecturers, by promoting them and filling vacant posts.
