The stage is set for the entry of former union minister and daughter of TDP founder late N T Rama Rao, Daggubati Purandeswari, into the YSR Congress Party.
Purandeswari is currently a BJP leader in Andhra Pradesh, and was a union minister during the UPA rule. She had resigned from her minister post ahead of the 2014 Assembly elections protesting the division of united Andhra Pradesh, and had joined the BJP.
YSRCP chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy reportedly cleared the decks for the entry of the Daggubati family into the party. The YSRCP leaders strongly feel that the support of the Daggubati family to the party would help it garner the votes of the dominant Kamma community in the state to some extent. (The Kamma community is known for its staunch support to the ruling TDP in the state.)
According to people close to the Daggubati family, a survey conducted by the husband of Purandeswari, Daggubati Venkateswara Rao, found that his son Hitesh would win from the seat if he contested the upcoming Assembly elections from the YSRCP. Apparently, Jagan also assured Purandeswari that her son Daggubati Hitesh would be given the Parchur Assembly ticket. Although the YSRCP had announced an Assembly coordinator for Parchur, Jagan is likely to field Hitesh from the seat.
It is being said that the family might join the YSRCP on January 21.
