Pulse Polio Drive On Jan 23, Feb 27

GHMC Additional Commissioner (health and sanitation) Aleem Basha and district medical and health officer Meena Kumari on Wednesday stated that the first round of the pulse polio immunization drive will be conducted on January 23 for children in the 0-5 years age group, at all polio booths in the state.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a health ministers' conference in the city, they said about 6.60 lakh children are expected to be immunized in the drive in Hyderabad.
A total of 3,200 polio booths and 65 mobile teams will be arranged in and around the city.
Door-to-door visits by teams, between January 24 and 26, will ensure that all children in the state are covered by the program, they said.
The second round of immunization will be conducted on February 27. Polling stations of the previous elections have been earmarked as polio posts (792 notified and 209 non-notified).
1,001 slums have been identified as high risk areas, and one polio booth has been arranged in each slum, the officials said.
64 mobile teams will be administering polio drops to children at construction sites, markets, temples, churches, gurudwaras and mosques.
Polio booths will be arranged at all railway and bus stations, and will work round the clock.
Publicity will done through banners, cassettes, cinema slides scrolling through electronic media, and messages on mobiles, and a hydrogen balloon at the Tank Bund.
Officials said the state reported 5 polio cases in 2007.
