Bharatiya Janata Party state (BJP) senior leader Gudur Narayana Reddy on Sunday demanded that the government provide basic amenities like washrooms and shower rooms on the Outer Ring Road of Hyderabad.
Gudur said that once a motorist entered the ORR they could not find any basic facilities till they exited the road. Parking was not allowed on ORR, and that was making travelling more torturous for the motorists, he claimed.
He said that diabetic patients who needed to attend to nature's calls frequently had been finding it particularly difficult to empty their bladders on the ORR. Women too were facing problems due to not being able to find a washroom on the long stretch.
He asked the government to take immediate steps to provide these facilities on the ORR in view of the problems being faced by lakhs of commuters every day. He added that the facilities should be provided once every 10 km on the road.
He said that the government should provide these facilities either through its own funds or through private organizations or even voluntary services, and suggested that the services could be offered for money on the ORR as most of the commuters owned cars and could bear the costs.
He said that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) should be entrusted with these responsibilities immediately.
Claiming that the government was earning thousands of crores of rupees selling government lands and through toll gates, he said that it was unfortunate that it was not focusing on providing essential services to the common people. He suggested that the minister and the officials of the MAUD travel on the ORR and find out the issues being faced by the commuters on it first hand.
