Incidents of
three-year-ago have reared their head to bite Roads & Buildings Minister and Srikakulam MLA, Dharmana Prasada Rao, in the rear.
Dharmana, who is to visit Ichchapuram, and two other towns in Srikakulam, to inaugurate various public buildings, is facing stiff opposition from farmers and environmental activists. Activists who spoke to the media think that Dharmana, a minister from their own district, should be doing all he could to have the Thermal Plant GO 1107 scrapped. However, they feel that he has business interests in the establishment of a thermal plant in the wetlands of Sompeta, and is hence standing in the way of the GO being scrapped.
They say that they will do all they can to stop his visit. "Even after we got Nagarjuna Construction Company kicked out, Dharmana hasn't said a word about supporting the suspension of the GO. In fact, he has been known have said that there will be a thermal plant in Sompeta no matter what, in several interviews," said an activist.
Dharmana is already in the news for the controversial VANPIC case, for which he is finally being prosecuted, nearly 9 months after CBI sought permission for the same. However, the MLA continues to be in office as Roads & Buildings Minister.
