The Telugu Desam Party on Monday demanded that the state government immediately order a CBI probe into
allegations of corruption against Minister For Major Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah.
Raising the issue during a press conference, TDP senior leaders Mandava Venkateswara Rao, Bojjala Gopala Krishna Reddy and Narender Reddy pointed out that it was some senior leaders in the ruling party themselves who had alleged corruption against Ponnala in carrying out works of the Jalayagnam Projects.
The TDP leaders dismissed the contention of Congress leaders that allegations against the Jalayagnam programme was an internal matter of the Congress party, and demanded that the government take a serious note over these allegations and order an inquiry by the CBI.
They also pointed out that the government had cancelled contracts from Yallampalli to Polavaram and had called for fresh tenders.
