The residents of Nakshatra Colony, Shamshabad, where the murdered veterinary doctor Priyanka Reddy's family lives, closed the gates of the colony today stating that they would not allow political leaders and police inside, and demanded that the killers of Reddy be given a stringent punishment.
Some policemen who were in the colony were also sent out by them.
From inside the gates, the residents staged protests with placards and raised slogans like "No Media, No Police, Politicians Go Back". They declared that until justice was done to the victim's family, they would not allow anyone inside the colony, and locked the gates from inside.
A few political leaders left the place after they were denied entry, while a few CPI leaders joined the protestors.
The residents said that they were not against the media as it was the media which had highlighted the issue, but that they were trying to make a bigger point. They also wanted Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to bring the four accused to the gates, and bring justice to the bereaved family. They asked why KCR had not even given any statement on the heinous episode, and said that till justice was meted out to the deceased family, they would keep the gates closed.
Mild tension prevailed for some time when the police tried to pacify the residents who were telling people trying to enter, to leave.
The family members also said that they need no consolation, and that they wanted to be allowed to live peacefully. They closed the gates of their house from inside.
