Daughter-in-law of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain and wife of Prince Edward, Sophie Helen, today visited the Gandhi General Hospital in Secunderabad.
The Countess of Wessex, as she is referred to, went around the pediatric ICU ward and several other wards in the hospital, and observed pre-term babies in the paediatric ICU. She also interacted with some hospital authorities, and also spoke with the parents of some of the pre-mature babies.
Helen is on a visit to India to see the functioning of the programs supported by the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust. She is also the Vice-Patron of the the Trust.
Following the visit of the Countess, the official Twitter handle of the Royal Family tweeted, "The oxygen given to babies in the incubator to survive can damage their immature retinal blood vessels. Without detection and treatment it can cause irreversible blindness."
