Pendyala Srikanth, one of the prime accused in the call money scam that rocked Andhra Pradesh a few weeks back, was arrested on Tuesday night.
Srikanth had been absconding ever since the scam was unearthed in Vijayawada last month. He was arrested in a hotel where he was staying by the Hyderabad Task Force police, and then handed over to the Machavaram police of Vijayawada.
It was alleged that several of the political leaders of Andhra Pradesh were involved in the illegal money lending business, in which women borrowers were forced into prostitution when they failed to pay the very usurious interests.
Srikanth is the seventh accused arrested in the case. Two more accused are absconding, and the police are making efforts to arrest them.
