State minister Ganta Srinivas Rao on Friday claimed that President of India Pranab Mukherjee would reject the Telangana Bill if it gets defeated in the State Legislative Assembly.
Speaking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party here, Ganta said that the President is fully aware of the Telangana issue, and that therefore, would not tolerate any violation of constitutional norms in the process of the bifurcation of AP.
He said that the President would return the Bill to the Centre if the Legislative Assembly rejects it.
He expressed confidence that the Telangana Bill will be defeated in the Assembly.
Ganta also claimed that the Seemandhra leaders have received clear indications from the Bharatiya Janata Party that it would not support the Bill in Parliament if the same gets defeated in Legislative Assembly.
He said that in such a case, it would be difficult for the UPA to pass the Bill in Parliament.
He also dismissed reports of a "No Trust Motion" that would be moved against Speaker Nadendla Manohar, describing them as baseless. (INN)
