Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday demanded that the state government prevail upon the Centre to postpone the National Eligibility & Entrance Test (NEET) by 2 years. The NEET is a national-level exam for admission into medical colleges, that will come into effect soon.
Talking to media persons at Visakhapatnam before proceeding to Hyderabad after the completion of his 2-day padayatra being organized as part of the Rythu Porubata in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts, Naidu said that the introduction of NEET would create problems for medical stream aspirants.
He said that students from AP would be at a disadvantage due to the sudden change in the syllabus and the pattern of the question paper.
Naidu said that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy could use his office and prevail upon the Centre to get NEET postponed for 2 years and protect the interests of AP students.
He said that the examination could be conducted from 2014 under a common syllabus for the national level entrance test.
The TDP chief also demanded that the government increase the age limit for Sub-Inspector posts by 3 years - from 25 to 28 - and give unemployed youth a chance.
Earlier, Naidu conducted a meeting with his party rank and file over the strengthening of the party in Visakhapatnam district.
He asked the district leaders to strengthen the party at the grassroots level by taking up various programs. He also called upon the party cadre to intensify the agitation against the the "anti-people" policies of government and highlight the failure of government on different fronts. (INN)
