Rachakonda Commissioner of Police Mahesh Bhagwath today said that the police department had increased surveillance in and around all the ATMs of the area following a rise in thefts near ATMs.
Addressing the media, he spoke about a series of recent thefts in Rachakonda, including one at an Indicash ATM in Abdullapurmet, and said that the police had been able to apprehend six of the accused in the cases and that the search for the remaining four was still on.
"A Haryana-based gang has been involved in several thefts in the area. The gang was headed by a Waris Khan, a native of Rajasthan. We have filed 11 cases against them. From the six arrested members, we have been able to recover Rs 73,000 in cash, a lorry, a motorbike and a TATA SUV," he said.
He then advised the managements of the banks in the area to appoint security officers at all their ATMs.
