Demanding a halt on the proposed recruitment of 1,100 sub-inspectors,aspirants owing affiliations to 3 Joint Action committees from various universities in the Telangana region on Monday picketed the Director General Of Police office.
Protesting against the government's move to conduct written examination for sub-inspector posts on December 18th and 19th, the aspirants demanded that the government cancel the proposed test until it makes its stand clear on free zone issue.
Raising slogans against the DGP, the aspirants tried to barge into his office. However, the police foiled their attempts, arrested the activists and shifted them to Nampally police station.
The activists stated that the SIs recruitment drive would hit the chances of candidates hailing from Telangana region, and they would lose 400 posts to aspirants from Seemandhra region.
Earlier, the police aspirants observed a hunger strike in Osmania University campus under the aegis of Joint Action Committee demanding cancellation of proposed test. Sensing trouble, additional police forces have been deployed in the OU campus to maintain law and order.
However, DIG Swathi Lakra on Monday stated that the police department would conduct the test as per schedule, and asked the candidates to collect their hall tickets between November 29th and December 4th.
Lakra asked the candidates hailing from Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medak, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar and Nizamabad district to collect their hall tickets from Hyderabad DIG office.
The written test would be conducted for VI zone candidates at BHEL township on December 18th and 19th, Lakra added.
