The YSR Congress, on Monday, alleged that the police were harassing Pulivendula MLA and YSR Congress honorary president Vijayamma on her by-poll campaign trail.
The YSRC, in a statement, alleged that the police checked the suitcases of Vijayamma all along her way to Narsapur in West Godavari district in a "highly objectionable manner".
"The high-handedness of the police has come in full public glare, when the suitcases of Y S Vijayamma and her daughter Sharmila were checked by policemen, and the force had no decency to get the checking done by policewomen at various check-points, on Thursday and Friday," YSRC leaders Kolli Nirmala Kuamri, Jakkampudi Vijayalakshmi and other leaders said, in a joint statement.
"Political vendetta has been rising higher and higher with every passing day, with the increasing response Y V Vijayamma has been getting in the campaign trail. Her convoy was stopped at many places, and the vehicles and suitcases were checked without following the basic norms of how to behave with a women MLA who is also the wife of a popular chief minister of the state and the honorary president of a political party," they said.
They said that the 2-day unruly behavior began at a check-point at Kongodu of Kajulur mandal.
Why was the convoy of PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana let off, the YSRC leaders demanded to know. They also questioned whether TDP chief Chandrababu Naiu's convoy would also be checked in the same manner.
"The checking continued at the Ramachandrapuram by-pass road, and the police behaved in a rude manner. She entered West Godavari on Friday morning. The convoy was stopped at Dindi check-post on the Razole-Chinchiwada highway. They threw the luggage out of the car and opened the suitcases and their bags in the checking operation," the YSRC leaders alleged. (INN)
