Police Deny Permission To TJAC Million March On 9th

The police have refused permission for the organizing of a Million March at Tank Bund on Saturday.

The march was planned by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC). CPM State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy sought the permission, sending a letter to the police authorities to that effect on March 2.

The city police, however, rejected permission on the grounds that anti-social elements could infiltrate the march and cause disturbances. The police also cited the example of disturbances during the last million march in which many people were injured.

Permission could not be given in view of the ongoing Intermediate examinations and without knowing the names of the speakers, the DCP said in a statement.

TJAC leaders are holding a meeting to discuss alternatives after the refusal of permission.
