The Kukatpally police yesterday solved the brutal murder of an 11-year-old girl, and revealed that the crime was committed by a Class 10 student.
According to the police, the accused, who lived in the same building as the victim, had entered her house with the intention of stealing. When the girl spotted him during the act, he attacked her repeatedly with a knife, inflicting 20 stab wounds that proved fatal.
The crime came to light when the girl's father, who had returned home for lunch, found his daughter lying in a pool of blood. Shocked, he raised an alarm, drawing the attention of neighbours, who immediately informed the police.
A case was registered and several special teams were formed to investigate.
Despite initial challenges and lack of evidence, the police eventually traced the accused through a crucial clue uncovered during the probe. The minor suspect was later arrrested and confessed to the crime.
The case had sparked widespread public outrage and campaigns over the past five days. With the arrest, the police said that the murder mystery had been solved.
