Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand asked cab drivers to play an active role in ensuring the safety of women while performing their duties.
Speaking after launching the "Training And Appraising The Drivers" program at the Cognizant Technology Services (CTS) premises at Gachibowli on Saturday, Anand said that with training, drivers could be sensitised to the importance of women's safety, defensive driving and better customer service.
He said that with good behaviour and discipline cab drivers could enhance Brand Hyderabad, as the first and last person with whom a tourist interacted was a cab driver.
The Cyberabad Commissioner praised the Telangana State Cabs And Bus Operators Association (TSCBOA) for taking the initiative, and said that this program should be conducted in all IT companies.
He said that alert drivers could help the police in the prevention of crime.
In his welcome address, TSCBOA President Syed Nizamuddin said that the Association, in collaboration with the Cyberabad Police, planned to train about 50,000 drivers on key issues related to the safety and security of passengers.
Further, by following all traffic rules, the drivers could make Hyderabad and Telangana examples for all countries.
The interactive training program was received well by the nearly 1,000 drivers who work with different private cab operators, and they assured the authorities of their full cooperation and support in ensuring the safety and security of not only the passengers but also their surroundings.
They also took a pledge on safe driving.
The TSCBOA President informed that similar training programs would be conducted for all the drivers operating in Hyderabad and Cyberabad, in batches of 700-1,000, in different IT companies in the Cyberabad limits. (INN)
