A division bench of the Supreme Court, on Monday, adjourned the petition of the Chhattisgarh government - which raised an objection to the construction of the multi-purpose Polavaram Dam in Andhra Pradesh - to 2 weeks.
The apex court, while adjourning the petition, directed the Andhra Pradesh government to file its response to the concerns of Chhattisgarh, within 2 weeks.
According to sources, the counsel for the neighboring Chhattisgarh government claimed that the Polavaram project would adversely affect the 2 states if its design is not changed, saying that the dam would submerge many tribal villages in the state.
After hearing the arguments of the Chhattisgarh government's counsel, the counsel for Andhra Pradesh sought time to file its reply.
Following the AP Counsel's request, the apex court adjourned the petition for hearing to after 2 weeks.
Earlier, the Supreme Court refused the Odisha government's plea to stay the construction of the Polavaram dam by Andhra Pradesh. (INN)
