Rallies In Support Of Farmers All Over State

Various parties and civil society organisations in the state organised demonstrations in solidarity with the farmers protesting the new farm Acts.
Hyderabad | 6th February 2021
The activists of several political parties and farmers' unions in the state today held a chakka jam to protest against the Centre's controversial farm Acts.

The farmers in the state also took out a bullock cart rally in response to the Samyukt Kisan Morcha and All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee's call for a nationwide chakka jam, and blockaded the National Highway at Hayathnagar.

Activists from the Congress, CPI, CPM and TJS took part in the rally as well, and demanded that the Centre repeal the three controversial farm legislations at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the police made elaborate arrangements to avoid any untoward incidents, and diverted the traffic from the highway to ensure the safety of both the protestors and the commuters.

Congress workers, on the instruction of the AICC to blockade national and state highways during the chakka jam, also took out processions in support of the agitating farmers.

Former MP V Hanumantha Rao joined the protest program organised at the Khammam Bypass Road in an expression of his solidarity with the farmers.

Speaking on the occasion, VHR said, "It is unfortunate that the farmers have been forced to continue their agitation for nearly 70 days at the borders of the national capital. The union government, led by Modi, has taken no cognisance of their plight, and has even ignored their genuine demands for the continuance of the MSP system, and the repeal of the three new farm laws. The Centre is busy favouring a few big corporates. However, the Congress will continue to stand by the farmers till justice is done."

Former TDP MLA Sambasiva Rao, Khammam Kisan Congress President Shekar Goud, Khammam INTUC President Sitaram, PCC Spokesperson R Laxman Yadav, local Congress workers, Left leaders and other farmers' union leaders participated in the agitation.

A huge citizens’ protest was also organised at the Nalgonda Crossroads, in Malakpet, by the members of the National Alliance of People’s Movements, the Human Rights Forum and the Rythu Swarajya Vedika. Many civil society organisations, including the Women and Transgender Joint Action Committee, the Dalit Bahujan Front and the Telangana for Farmers group, joined in the demonstration.

This follows the massive demonstrations that were organised by the Congress leaders at the district collectorates in the state, last month.
