Following an assurance made by J Geeta Reddy (Minister For Information & Public Relations, Cinematography, FDC, & Tourism) that the AP state government would soon swoop down on piracy and take suitable measures, the Telugu film industry called off the bandh that was proposed to take place on Friday, 19 March.
Geeta Reddy announced that the government would try to regularize all video libraries in the state. The film industry, meanwhile, will set up an anti-piracy cell within 45 days.
MAA (Movie Artistes Association) President Murali Mohan lauded what he said was a brave initiative undertaken by the producer Yalamanchili Ravi Chand - his
fast-unto-death to protest against movie piracy. Murali Mohan said that the small-time producer had single-handedly, without even a tent to sit under because there was no police permission for the fast, shaken the entire film industry. Suresh Babu said the industry was extremely grateful to the state government for having consented to all the demands made by movie big-wigs who met Geeta Reddy and the CM today.
