Phone-Tapping Case: Konda Vishweshwar Records Statement
The BJP MP said that the SIT officials had informed him that his phone was tapped, and specifically accused former DGP Mahender Reddy of being involved.
BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy who represents the Chevella Lok Sabha constituency today recorded his statement before the SIT officials in connection with the phone-tapping case, at the Jubilee Hills police station in Hyderabad.
The SIT confirmed that his phone had been illegally tapped in November 2023.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Reddy said that the SIT officials had informed him that his phone was tapped during the Munugode, Dubbaka and Huzurabad by-elections.
He said that the surveillance had begun after he left the BRS and that the BRS government targeted him.
He alleged that his phone was tapped without legal authorisation. He claimed that certain police officers entered his office without a warrant, abused him and tapped his phone. He specifically accused former DGP Mahender Reddy of being involved.
Reddy also alleged that his associates and he were harassed during the elections. He said that the police seized Rs 72 crore worth of gold purchased by a friend and then used phone-tapping to falsely suggest that it was his own money.
Reddy also alleged that the KCR government had falsely accused him of funding MP Etala Rajender's campaign. While he admitted to supporting Rajender, he denied giving any money to the latter's campaign.
He also said that his wife Sangeeta's phone was also illegally monitored during the Munugode by-election. And when he tried to file a complaint, a non-bailable case was slapped on him, he said.
He demanded strict punishment for former Intelligence chief Prabhakar Rao and others involved in the phone-tapping scandal. He also said that he would raise the issue in Parliament.
