Nearly 64,000 people have been shifted from low-lying areas in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh, to safer places, in view of the Phailin cyclone.
Talking to reporters here, Revenue Minister Dr. N Raghuveera Reddy said that the evacuation was done in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts which are most likely to face the impact of the cyclone. He hoped that 30 boats which went into deep sea for fishing from Visakhapatnam would return by Friday. He said,"All the District Collectors have been directed to stay on alert at the mandal level, and to make arrangements to be able to face any eventuality."
Raghuveera Reddy also appealed to the people in coastal areas to follow the instructions of officials and to cooperate with the local administration in effectively handling the situation. (INN)
