Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today exhorted the newly-elected GHMC corporators to perform or perish.
Addressing orientation classes for the corporators at Pragati Resorts on the outskirts of Hyderabad, KCR asked the former to avoid turning headstrong and ignoring the citizens' problems. He cautioned his men and women that the same people who carried the leaders on their shoulders would not hesitate to dump them over stones if they failed to deliver goods.
Accusing the previous leaders of the civic body of destroying the city and leaving behind a legacy of a volley of problems, KCR said that the current leaders of the GHMC should work in the manner of an army on the borders to take on all the festering issues.
The Chief Minister also called upon them not to change their attire, language and attitude upon being elected corporators, and instead work sincerely to win the citizens' hearts by offering suitable services.
The corporators should visit Monda Market in Secunderabad and see that other similar markets were built immediately, he said. He also asked the corporators to ensure that officials could not be bribed for double bedroom houses, and that middlemen did not flourish.
"We need to upgrade the city to global standards, and provide all the necessary facilities and infrastructure for that," he said. He also asked the corporators to think of what would happen to Hyderabad if it witnessed the same kind of rainfall that battered Chennai last year, and prepare in advance.
