Trying to neutralize protests over the issue by Opposition political parties, mainly the BJP, by walking a tight rope, TRS boss and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today said in the Legislative Assembly that the people of the State could celebrate September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day as there was no restriction from the government, and that there was no need for any creation of confusion or protests by political parties over it.
He also said that there was no restriction on unfurling the national flag on that day when democracy came to the region.
The CM said that the TRS had in fact been flying the tricolour in Telangana Bhavan for a long time to mark the day as Liberation Day.
KCR noted that the then Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel had named the Nizam as Raj Pramukh for ruling the Hyderabad state after it was merged into Indian Union in a spirit of accommodation, and that the same spirit should continue. He said that Telangana had remained peaceful since its formation, and any attempts to disrupt the peace and tranquility would be crushed with an iron hand.
The CM added that Telangana was really liberated on June 2, 2014, after 60 years of struggles and sacrifices by many.
