Of 15,77,680 property tax payers in Hyderabad, only 5,69,454 had paid their property taxes so far, GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore said.

Stating that the GHMC had collected only Rs 605 crore in property tax as against a target of Rs 1,800 crore for 2019-20, Commissioner M Dana Kishore today appealed to the citizens to pay their outstanding tax arrears by June 30 and escape penalty of 2% per month from July 1.
The Commissioner said that for the convenience of the citizens, the GHMC citizen service centers would be functioning from 8 am to 8 pm on both remaining Sundays of this month, June 23 and 30, too.
Kishore said that while there were 15,77,680 property tax payers in the city, only 5,69,454 had paid their property taxes so far. The remaining 10,08,226 tax payers needed to cumulatively pay Rs 1,195 crore to the corporation. Due to non-payment of property tax by the property owners on time, the execution of development projects in the city was being affected, he said, since property tax was the only source of funding for GHMC projects like the SRDP, free double bedroom houses, construction of roads and other works in Hyderabad.
While the Property Tax needed to be paid in the first month of the financial year, the citizens were paying it in March of the next year, he added.
