Several Intermediate students and their parents along with several students unions today staged a protest before the Board of Intermediate Education.
They demanded that the authorities concerned pass the students who had failed the first year exams, with minimum marks, and alleged that the authorities were playing with the lives of the students by "failing them".
The parents said that their children had found it very difficult to prepare for the first year exams as they were completed six months after their commencement.
They also claimed that the authorities had not conducted the spot valuation properly.
The student union leaders alleged that the policies of the board were responsible for the failure of so many students (51% failed). They claimed that several students could not prepare for the exams due to lack of proper internet connectivity.
When the activists of the students' unions tried to lay siege to the board's office, the police stopped them, leading to tense moments for some time. The police later arrested the activists and took them to different police stations.
