Telangana BJP President K Laxman, along with others, was arrested hours after they started an indefinite fast at the State BJP office at Nampally alleging that the State government was ignoring the bungling in the Intermediate results and the resulting suicides of 20+ students.

Police personnel, under the supervision of Crime DCP Avinash Mahanti, entered the BJP office in Nampally and bodily removed Laxman from there and took him to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

Some BJP workers were also arrested, leading to mild tension in the area.

Laxman began the fast on Monday morning at the BJP office, not far from the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) headquarters, which also witnessed a series of protests by Opposition parties and students.

The BJP leader was demanding a judicial probe into the BIE bungling, resignation of the Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy and compensation for the families of the students who committed suicides.

He had said that the BJP wouldn't let go of the issue until the government suspended Educational Minister G Jagadish Reddy.

BJP National General Secretary N Muralidhar Rao condemned the arrests of Laxman and other party workers. He said that BJP workers in all of Telangana would stage protests against the State government against the results fiasco and the arrests. He also said that they would lay siege to Pragathi Bhavan on Tuesday.

BJP leader and former minister D K Aruna held Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao responsible for the suicides of 26 students. She expressed her solidarity with Laxman's fight with the government.
