Congress leaders across Telangana staged dharnas in front of all district collectorates demanding justice for the students who failed in the Intermediate exams.
All the luminaries were in action. TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy took part in the dharna program in Suryapet district, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka in Khammam and TPCC publicity committee chairperson Vijaya Santhi in Warangal.
TPCC working president Ponnam Prabhakar, former TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, former MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy and MLC Ramulu Naik also participated in the agitations.
The police arrested many of the agitating Congress leaders. Senior leaders including V Hanumantha Rao, Anjan Kumar Yadav and M Kodanda Reddy were taken to the Narayanguda police station, Ponnala Lakshmaiah to the Ramgopalpet police station, Ramulu Naik to the Nampally police station, and Malreddy Ranga Reddy and Challa Narsimha Reddy to the Musheerabad police station. Greater Hyderabad Congress Party president Anjan Kumar Yadav was also among those arrested.
State Youth Congress president M Anil Kumar Yadav and others participated in the agitation at the Hyderabad district collectorate. Yadav demanded that the Chief Minister suspend Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy immediately for abetting the suicides of 20 innocent students, and arrest the officials responsible for the irregularities.
NSUI State President Venkat demanded that the State government pay an ex gratia of Rs 25 lakh to the families of each of the students who committed suicide. He warned that they would go on relay hunger strikes if the government failed to pay the ex gratia.
