P V Narasimha Rao Centenary Birthday Celebrations Kick Off

The year-long birth centenary celebrations of the former PM began today with eminent personalities participating in a virtual meeting organised by the TPCC.

The year-long birth centenary celebrations of former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao began on Friday with eminent personalities including former President of India Pranab Mukherjee and ex-Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh participating in the virtual meeting organised by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC).

The main event was held at Indira Bhavan in the Gandhi Bhavan premises, and it was connected online with a Zoom call which had nearly 1,000 guests including former union ministers P Chidambaram and Jairam Ramesh attending it.

The event was broadcast live on social media platforms and displayed at giant screens at all DCC offices and other places.

P V Centenary Birthday Celebrations Committee chairperson J Geeta Reddy, honorary chairman of the committee V Hanumantha Rao, vice chairman of the committee D Sridhar Babu, convenor of the committee Mahesh Goud, TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other party leaders took part in the celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said that the former PM had not only been a foot soldier and a leader of the party, he would always remain its pride. She said that the party would come into power in Telangana in 2023 taking inspiration from PV.

Rahul Gandhi said that PV had become the PM of the country at a time when the country was witnessing a grave economic crisis, and that the country wa able to overcome many challenges successfully due to his leadership.

Pranab Mukherjee recalled that almost three decades ago Narasimha Rao had presented his first budget with Dr Manmohan Singh as his Finance Minister, which brought radical reforms in the Indian economy. He hailed Rao for his path-breaking ability to do things which sometimes appeared impossible.

Manmohan Singh termed his predecessor Rao as a role model for the people of the country. He said that it was a matter of pride for him that he had presented the first annual union budget of his life as the finance minister in PVNR's cabinet.

TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy too hailed the services rendered by the former PM to the party and the country in different capacities.
