Old City Civic Works To Be Taken Up

MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi urged GHMC commissioner Sameer Sharma to speed up civic work in old city.
Hyderabad | 28th October 2010
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner Sameer Sharma, along with MIM MLAs, led by the party's floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, visited and inspected various areas of south and central zones on Wednesday.

Owaisi demanded GHMC to speed up the various ongoing works, including laying of pipelines of storm drain and drinking water in various places. He also said that delay in the work was resulting in traffic congestion and caused untold inconvenience to the citizens.

The team visited and inspected various places where civic problems were severe, particularly in the MIM represented assembly segments that included Nampally, Bahadurpura, Karwan, Charminar, Yakutpura, Chandrayangutta and Malakpet.

Owaisi reminded the authorities that though MIM had provided land to GHMC to the tune of 1.5 acre at the out gate of the Owaisi hospital, Santoshnagar, to widen the traffic junction circle and a bus bay in front of the hospital, the work had not started. He strongly urged the commissioner to construct FOB at Santhoshnagar crossroads.

The tour began at 6 am from Mehdipatnam and ended at around 10:30 am at Azampura. MIM MLAs Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Afsar Khan, Mouzam Khan, Virasat Rasool Khan and Ahmed Balala, besides Mirza Mustafa Baig Saleem, GHMC-MIM floor leader, and local corporators of the respective divisions including Mansoor Awalgi, Samd Bin Abdaad, Yousuf Naqshbandi, Zakir Baqhri, MA Gaffer, Mehraj Mohammed, Mir Zulfekhar Ali, Haq Nazeer, Minhajuddin, Murtuza Ali, Wajid Ali Khan, Sk Shakeel Mahmood, Wajahat Ali Khan, Riyazul Hasan Afandi, Mohsina Parveen, Zohra Begum and Maleka Begum were present.

Owaisi underlined the urgent need to address long-pending works such as that of Afzalsagar Nala, which has been pending for the last 35 years, though 5 representatives (MLAs) have been changed.

The problem is so severe that a rain of a few hours will create havoc and untold inconvenience to the people. Though, an amount of Rs. 5.85 crore has been earmarked in this regard, the work was yet to begin. Sharma assured that he would look into the matter.

Owaisi also urged the commissioner to restore the heritage bridge Puranapul by removing illegal constructions and encroachments because even a pedestrian could not move on the bridge. The commissioner directed the concerned authorities on the spot to take necessary action in this connection.

Similarly, at Mogal Ka Nala, where road widening was in slow progress, there was an urgent need to speed up the work, said Visarat Rasool Khan and Afser Khan, both local MLAs.

Bahadurpura MLA Mozam Khan strongly demanded the GHMC to bring a permanent solution to road repair in his constituency, the stretch opposite Dargah Hazri Shah Hasan Bin Ahmed and Bahadurpura police station as it came under the National highway authority. The road was badly damaged resulting in frequent accidents and traffic congestion.

Yakutpura MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, wanted the GHMC authorities to replace the old storm water drain at the stretch of Yakutpura-Bada Bazar-Faiz Kaman at Rein Bazar. The existing pipeline was laid during Nizam' s regime.

Ahmed Balala brought to the notice of the GHMC commissioner various civic problems in his constituency in Chanchalguda, Akberbagh and Azampura.

The other areas that were visited and inspected included Mehdipatnam, Guddimalkapur, Jirra, Asifnagar, Puranapul, Tadbun, Nasheman Nagar,Gowlipura, Santhoshnagar,Kaladera, Akbarbagh and New Malakpet.

He asked the officers to complete the ongoing works at Tadbun - Makkah colony by the end of this year.

The GHMC officers who were present on the occasion included Ellam Bharthy, zonal commissioner (central zone), Chandrasekhar Reddy, zonal commissioner (south zone), chief engineer and other senior officials.
