The Andhra Pradesh Police are reportedly fully geared for conducting the elections in 17 Parliamentary and 119 Assembly constituencies in Telangana on Wednesday.
According to DGP B Prasada Rao, the police have taken all measures for the maintenance of law and order in the run-up to and during the first phase of the General Elections in AP on April 30, in the 10 districts of Telangana, which also comprise of the Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerates.
As per the guidelines of the ECI, a close watch has been kept on the movement of cash, liquor, gifts, contraband and other articles meant as inducement for voters. All the inter-state and inter-district borders are being watched carefully.
Bribing of voters is a violation of the election law and Model Code of Conduct.
The overall strength of the deployed police force is over 90,000. That includes around 54,000 personnel of Civil Police and District Armed Reserve, besides around 15,500 Home Guards, over 3,500 recruit PCs, around 1,700 personnel from other wings of the police, 158 Paramilitary Coys and 59 APSP Companies.
4 IAF helicopters have been stationed for contingencies, in the districts.
A lot more statistics were provided by the cops. So far, the A P Police have seized Rs. 122.94 crores at different places. However, up to April 28th, Rs. 43.90 crores was returned to the owners after verification of documents.
In the single biggest incident of seizure of cash, Rs. 8.3 crores were seized on April 24 by the Cyberabad Police, and registered as Cr. No. 117/14 of the Shamshabad Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
The A P Police have formed 925 Flying Squads and 929 SSTs. A total of 5,427 FIRs have been issued, and 31,147 security cases booked. As many as 307,171 persons have been bound over, and 18,398 weapons have been deposited across the State. A total of 68 weapons were seized, and 279 Arms Licenses cancelled.
As many as 28,775 cases of the violation of the Model Code of Conduct were booked, while 1,474 NBWs were executed. The police have also seized 32,18,143 bottles of liquor, 89.3 kg of gold and 821 kg of silver. (INN)
