The giant Oswal Chemicals And fertilizers Limited, a fertilizer pioneer, has offered to set up a fertilizer plant in Andhra Pradesh.
Chairman and Managing Director of Oswal Chemicals and Feritlisers Abhay Oswal, on Tuesday, met the Chief Minister K Rosaiah, and discussed the issue in detail.
Andhra Pradesh being an agrarian economy, and set for a record cultivation, is in need of fertilizers, Oswal said, and proposed to set up a urea plant with a capacity of 1.2 million tons per year based on natural gas with estimated investment of Rs. 5,000 crores.
Their request for gas allocation for the project has already been forwarded by the Ministry of Chemicals And Fertilizers to the Ministry Of Petroleum And Natural Gas. The plant will employ about 5,000 labour force during the construction phase, and about 1,000 skilled and unskilled manpower during normal plant operations.
Oswal said that the unit will also establish a 100 MW capacity power plant using surplus steam from urea manufacturing facilities supplemented by coal. The group controls an ownership interest in Indonesian coal mines having more than 100 million tons of coal reserves.
The Company also proposed to set up a 1 million ton capacity Di-ammonium Phosphate Plant with an investment of Rs. 2,000 crores. Phosphoric acid required for the plant will be imported from Syria Arab Republic.

The plant will employ about 3,000 labourers during the construction phase, and 700 skilled and unskilled manpower during normal plant operations.
The Chief Minister agreed to consider Oswal's proposal and clear it at the earliest.
