No Shortage Of Urea In Telangana: Minister

Minister for Agriculture Singireddy Niranjan Reddy today reiterated that there was no shortage of urea in Telangana, and that farmers need not worry about availability of the fertiliser.

The minister also warned that stringent action would be initiated against any persons creating any artificial scarcity of urea in the market.

Reddy held a review meeting with officials at the Secretariat and reviewed the stock and supply of fertilizers in Telangana.

On the occasion, the minister said that Telangana had ben allocated about 9.14 lakh metric tons of urea for the monsoon season, of which about 7.78 lakh metric tonnes were already supplied, and 2.15 lakh metric tons were kept as advance stock, as on March 31.

"Right now, there is adequate stock of urea - about 2.5 lakh metric tons - in Telangana, and farmers need not worry about its availability. Some elements are trying to create rumours that there is a shortage of urea in the State. If anyone indulges in creating an artificial scarcity of urea in the market, stringent action will be initiated against them," Reddy said.

Secretary for Agriculture Raghunandan Rao, Special Commissioner Hanmanthu, Horticulture Director Hanmantha Rao, Marketing Director Lakshmibai, Additional Director Vijay Kumar, Joint Director (Fertilizers) Ramulu and other officials were present.
