The all-party meeting on the World Telugu Conference ended with a firm resolve to cooperate in promoting the language.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy convened the meeting on Saturday ahead of the conference to be held at Tirupati from December 27 to 29 which will be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee. Representatives of TDP, BJP, CPM and Lok Satta attended the meeting, and demanded that all steps be taken for promoting the language.
The state sought the cooperation of all the political parties for the smooth conduct of the event. Opposition parties demanded that strict action be taken against those who demean the language.
Minister Vatti Vasantha Kumar said that all opposition parties have agreed to cooperate for the success of the meet.
Goratla Butchaiah Choudhry (TDP) said that proper steps should be taken to make Telugu as the official language, while Kishen Redy (BJP) said that unless there is sincerity in the efforts of the government, there is no use in spending crores of rupees to promote Telugu. (INN)
