In light of the fact that IAS officer Srilakshmi, if released on bail, might tamper with evidence and threaten witnesses, the High Court denied her petition for bail.
Senior IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, on Friday, surrendered herself before a city court, following the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the lower court's refusal to issue bail.
SriLakshmi was remanded to judicial custody till 12 January, to be sent to Chanchalguda jail.
Earlier, after hearing the petition filed by Srilakshmi, which challenged the CBI court order, the apex court made the ruling and posted the next petition hearing for 16 January.
The High Court concurred with arguments presented by the CBI counsel that the IAS official, if given bail, could be an obstruction to justice by threatening witnesses and tampering with evidence.
The court also agreed that it was not proper to release Srilakshmi on bail since all 3 other prime accused were in jail.
Srilakshmi is the 4th accused in the OMC mining case which had caused a Rs. 5,100 crore loss to the state exchequer. (INN)
