In a setback to suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, who was arrested in the Obulapuram Mining Corporation's illegal mining scam, the High Court, on Wednesday, refused to grant her bail.
After hearing arguments and counter-arguments, the court rejected Srilakshmi's bail petition. The CBI counsel argued that she might tamper with the evidence and influence witnesses if she is granted bail.
Stating that her presence is still necessary for the investigation, the counsel appealed to the court to not grant her bail.
Meanwhile, Srilakshmi's counsel asserted that her client had never tried to tamper with the evidence, and that the CBI was leveling baseless charges against her.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court concurred with the CBI, and rejected her bail petition.
It may be recalled that the CBI has moved a petition in the High Court, opposing the bail sanctioned to her by the CBI special court. (INN)
